Attempting to select any other routing option brings up the message No Matches Found. If you have no basemap, you get a whiteout. May have partially answered my own question. The lowest plane of the detailed maps is actually similar to the basemap, but the top plane is much more detailed, displaying individual streets and alleys, as well as a couple of millions of POI's. Rapp, tryed your sugggestion -- still no go.

Oh oh. I accidentally deleted the basemap - gmapbmap.img

Keep in mind that when merging different img files it is better those maps to be of a same type not to have problems of routing, displaying etc. The Basmap has more detail, relatively speaking, than the NA map I currently have, and that appears to be what the Nuvi is programmed to use in making its "decision" on which map to use when autofoute is more than one of same area.

Worldwide Autoroute Basemap Inventory: I found some torrent websites that seems to have the gmapbmap for download, but I can't find the one with the same file size, but maybe it's because they are zipped. Now the world basemap has a home and it's living in my Nuvi. Today I decided to synchronise my Palm Treo cellphone, and every time I pressed the button the Garmin application would pop up telling me "Installing File 1 of ".

I have the file sitting on the SD memory chip all by its lonesome and the Nuvi will not recognize it. Just download the file from the link in the first post which I suspect you have already done.

Right now I am looking at two identical Nuvi side by side. MapSetToolKit is using free version of cgpsmapper for all work. Can I add to your noobness question akahan, not only can't I figure out what it is I'd would love to know how Freebird and OfficeMaven found out what version of it they had. Perhaps you are right and I am seeing not what I am looking for. The normal world basemap that comes on all Nuvi's does not show on the Map Info page.

The one thing that maybe different is that the gmapbmap. Maybe they are de, to the firmware as to what is "embedded" into the flash memory and using it in a non-Garmin device.

The dividing line which I admit can be very fuzzy would be whether the owner of those rights Garmin could or would want to show that they had suffered economic damages as a result.

I downloaded the files from Garmin, renamed gmapbmap. Some newer versions of Stuffit are known to choke on exe files, so try to find an older auotroute or, some have reported, the very latest 11? They have full routing attributes and should have towns so assuming you're short of storage space was especially useful for older units you can route from NYC to SF with worldqide the details on both ends. I think that must be right Sad to say but bricking your wonderful expensive Nuvi could be done with only a few wrong keystrokes.

I think I can make out Omsk too. The world basemap is a bit lower in detail than I'd really like but you can't beat the price of this one. The difference in detail on the worldwide basemap is substantial.
